Family Engagement

Family engagement refers to a collaborative, strengths-based partnership between educators, families, and communities. It is a shared responsibility where schools actively invite families to participate in their child's holistic development, and families actively support their child’s learning at home and at school.

Unlike traditional parental involvement—which is often passive and school-directed (e.g., attending a bake sale or signing a report card)—true family engagement is a two-way relationship built on mutual trust, cultural respect, and ongoing communication.

Educators can use the resources below to help foster communication and create a collaborative environment for their students and families.
