The Certificate of Graduate Study (CAGS) in Student Assistance Coordination (SAC) is intended for individuals who want to be certified as student assistance coordinators.  A Student Assistance Coordinator provides in-school assessment, crisis intervention and counseling and referral services to any student experiencing personal, family, or peer difficulties.  Student Assistance Coordinators work with students, their families, and community resources in many New Jersey school districts to address substance abuse issues, social and emotional issues, and behavioral problems experienced by school-age children.

Master’s degree in Counseling (or a School Counseling Certificate) from an accredited institution of higher learning.

For MA degrees other than Counseling, or School Counseling Certificates, additional courses may be required as pre-requisites upon a formal review of transcripts.

Students enrolled in the Counseling in Educational Settings Master’s program (CES) would only need to complete the additional three Psychology courses and the one Law and Ethics course in the Master’s in School Leadership program to obtain the SAC certificate.  These four courses will be offered online.  The total of new credits for CES students is 12.

CES students choosing to complete this certificate would need to complete the Practicum course under the supervision of a SAC supervisor.  In addition, students would need to file a separate certificate application upon the completion of the 60 credit program (48+12).
