A Message from the Dean

gaetane-jean-marieWelcome to the College of Education at Rowan University!  As we look to the future and think about the positive impact we want to continue to make through our scholarship, teaching, and service, the role of colleges of education has never been more important.  We are committed to advancing academic excellence and the impact of a university education through a dedicated focus to inspire our students to be socially aware, critical thinkers, and global citizens who create and bring about positive change in the world.

Holding steadfast to its teacher education tradition since 1923 yet expanding in the modern world, the College of Education is organized into four academic divisions: Educational Services and Leadership (EDSL), Interdisciplinary and Inclusive Education (IIE), Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Education (LLSC), and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) Education. Our undergraduate and graduate students are prepared for careers that range from elementary, middle-level, inclusive, physical, and special education teachers to school counseling and psychologists, educational leaders, nonprofit professionals, early childhood education providers, college faculty members, and beyond. Students gain experience through diverse early and in-depth immersion in professional settings to receive practical, hands-on experiences that deepen their learning. Our partnership with local schools, agencies, and a broad range of constituents across the region, and outreach efforts through our cutting-edge centers, institutes, professional education services, and summer enrichment programs help us offer the most dynamic, responsive, and engaging experiences to our students which simultaneously address the needs of the community.

Faculty are dedicated to making knowledge matter and engaging in unfettered inquiry. The personalized attention, service learning opportunities, clinical practice, and field-based experiences, and caring community allow for a high level of interaction between students and faculty. Coupled with that, our professional and administrative staff are committed to helping students transition to the higher education environment and providing student support services to help them stay connected. Preparing educators and human service professionals is a collective endeavor so our students achieve their aspirations, are successful in their careers, and make a difference in our rapidly-changing and increasingly globalized society.

I invite you to explore through our website the broad opportunities available in the College of Education. On our website, you will read about the academic programs, and see how our faculty and students, work side-by-side on research and/or service-based projects and engage with the educational, health, and industry community, which shape our collective lives. I encourage you to contact us so we can help you on your journey in one of our academic programs in the College of Education.

Sincerely,

Gaëtane Jean-Marie, Ph.D.
