Medallion Awards
Congratulations to our Medallion Award recipients!
The medallion award is the highest honor a graduating senior can receive to acknowledge superior performance in a particular field. The medallion represents students’ achievements in their academic pursuits, faculty excellence in teaching, and alumni service leadership.
The medallion award distinguishes the student as exceptional, placing them in the ranks of Rowan University’s finest graduates.

Grace O’Malley
Susan L. Lytle Practitioner Award
Grace O’Malley is a soon-to-be graduate of the Master of Arts in Reading Education: Reading Specialist track program at Rowan University. She has spent the last ten years working in public education. Grace is currently a Preschool Teacher for a public school district in New Jersey, where she has spent the last 5 years teaching.
Grace is honored to accept the Susan L. Lytle Practitioner Research Award and cannot thank her professors enough for supporting her through her current classroom research. Her current research project, Utilizing Funds of Knowledge in an Early Childhood Classroom to Enhance and Create Read-Aloud Experiences, has been a rewarding learning experience, that would not have been possible without the help of her students and their families.
Grace hopes to pursue a higher-education career that allows her to work alongside pre-service teachers. Grace resides in Camden County, NJ with her husband and son, and will welcome a second son into her family this summer. When the school year ends, you can find Grace sitting on a Sea Isle City beach with an Elin Hilderbrand novel in hand.
April Krause
Cecil F. Miller Special Education Award
April Krause is a first-generation college student and senior at Rowan University. She will graduate Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Inclusive Elementary Education. Along with her bachelor's degree, she will receive a Certificate of Eligibility in Elementary Education, K-6, and a Certificate of Students with Disabilities. April is a member of the Golden Key National Honors Society, Rowan Chapter, NJEA, and Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
Rowan’s University’s Inclusive Elementary Education Program enriched her understanding of providing students with an equitable and accessible learning experience that accentuates their strengths while nurturing their learning goals. Through Rowan's program and their professors, April learned valuable teaching practices to cultivate an inclusive mindset to support diverse learners. She also learned viable approaches to ensure students have an accessible and equitable learning opportunity and experience to support their academic achievements. April thrived as a learner at Rowan University, achieving milestones she thought were unattainable. She attributes her academic success to the unconditional support of her husband, family, friends, peers, Rowan Professors, and advisors. April appreciates having had this excellent learning opportunity and educational experience to take with her in her future endeavors.
Jennifer Graham-Hougah
John A. Rocco Postbaccalaureate Award for Excellence in Secondary Teaching
Jennifer Graham-Hougah is a dedicated educator with a passion for language and the arts. Graduating Summa Cum Laude from Rowan University in May 2024, Jennifer will earn a Masters of Science in Teaching: Subject Matter Education, French, with CEAS in French K-12. Jennifer’s teaching journey includes a comprehensive clinical internship at Audubon High School, NJ in which she was nominated by her clinical practice supervisor for the 2024 NJACTE Distinguished Clinical Intern Award. Prior to this, Jennifer completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art with a concentration in Art History and a minor in French from Rutgers University, Camden.
As a seasoned teaching artist with 12 years experience, Jennifer fostered creativity in students of all ages through process-oriented art classes. Notable honors include the Pierre C. Fraley Scholarship from Alliance Francaise de Philadelphie to be used towards the 2024 Summer French Immersion at Middlebury Language Schools. Jennifer's commitment to education extends beyond the classroom, as evidenced by her participation in professional development programs and conferences, including co-presenting at the FLENJ conference with Rowan faculty and students on leveraging AI in World Language classrooms.
Megan Prasek
The Cone Award for Teaching Individuals with Disabilities
Megan Prasek is honored and humbled to have been selected for the Cone Award Medallion for Teaching Individuals with Disabilities in Physical
Education. She has always had a passion for working with young learners. Megan is currently an undergraduate Health and Physical Education major at Rowan University. In May, she will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Education with Specialization in Teacher Certification in Health and Physical Education.
Throughout her academic journey, she has maintained good grades. Academic achievements include Dean’s List almost every semester, President’s Scholars List last semester, and induction into Kappa Delta Pi, an education honors society.
Megan has had the opportunity to student teach in various schools, where she gained experience in lesson planning, classroom management, and delivering lessons. These experiences have enriched her teaching skills and highlighted the importance of building meaningful relationships with students. In her spare time, Megan enjoys playing club softball, volunteering as a coach at her current placement, and staying physically active. She is excited to embark on this journey working with the next generation and inspire, empower, and support students as they strive to reach their full potential.
Kylie Abriola
Susan Taber Excellence in Elementary Mathematics Education Award
Kylie Abriola is a passionate and dedicated educator who has excelled academically and demonstrated a remarkable commitment to the field of education. Throughout her academic journey, Kylie has consistently demonstrated outstanding academic performance, earning a place on the Dean's List multiple times. She had achieved a significant milestone by graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Moreover, recognizing the importance of catering to the diverse needs of students, Kylie pursued additional certification in English as a Second Language (ESL). This certification underscores her commitment to inclusivity and determination to create an equitable learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. This accomplishment is a testament to her passion for teaching and desire to mold young minds, instilling in them a love for learning that will last a lifetime. Throughout her undergraduate studies, Kylie displayed exceptional leadership qualities, actively participating in various educational initiatives, and demonstrating a deep understanding of pedagogical principles. Kylie looks forward to officially starting to teach in her own classroom this fall!
Emily Lancetta
Evelyn Slobodzian Excellence in Reading Award
Emily is an Elementary Education major who is also obtaining a Teacher of Reading certification, as well as a Certificate of Undergraduate Studies (CUGS) in Writing Studies for Educators. She is graduating Summa Cum Laude from the College of Education. Through her Reading Certification, Emily was a tutor in the Rowan Reading Clinic in the Spring and Fall semesters of 2023. For the past 3 years, Emily has held an on-campus position in the Admissions office. First as an Admissions Ambassador, then as an Admissions Ambassador Coordinator. She has loved her time at Rowan and can't wait for her future in education! Emily would like to thank her parents, Jeanine and Pat, for always believing in her and encouraging her to do her best!
Kyla Workman
Ida and Jeff Margolis Award for Social Studies and Multicultural Teaching
Kyla Workman is honored to receive the Ida & Jeff Margolis Award for Social Studies and Multicultural Teaching. During her time at Rowan, she dedicated her time to different extracurriculars like the Rowan Dance Club, Dance Extensions and the Christian Based Organization Alpha Omega. She completed a Certificate of Undergraduate Study in French and a minor in Dance. Kyla was grateful to receive her Bachelors of Arts in History last Spring and is hoping to receive her Masters of Science in Teaching this Spring. Being a Rowan student has brought her so many precious memories, and she will always treasure her time here.

Brad Kline
Robin Haskell McBee Award for Exemplary Teacher Leadership
Brad Kline is graduating with a Master's in Educational Leadership with a COGS in Educational Technology. Much of his work within the program focused on addressing the inequities that exist in education and identifying clear paths forward in improving climate and culture at the high school level. Brad is in his 10th year as a science teacher at Collingswood High School. He has spent the last few years teaching primarily environmental science. Brad is also the head baseball coach and Green Team advisor. As an alumnus of Collingswood, he is very proud to be teaching and coaching at his alma mater. Brad and his wife, Brianna, have been married for 8 years come July. They have two wonderful children, ages 4 and 2.
Brad is incredibly honored to be recognized for this award. He is passionate about addressing the needs of a diverse learning community, and he is grateful to be recognized for continuing this important work.
Morgan Mohammed
Thomas J. Gallia Award for Excellence in Secondary Science Teaching
After graduating from EHTHS in 2018, Morgan Mohammed's academic journey began at Towson University, where Morgan pursued Forensic Chemistry. However, as she delved deeper into her studies, Morgan discovered a stronger passion lying elsewhere. This realization prompted her to transfer to Rowan University in 2020, where she enrolled in the Combined Advanced Degree Program in Biological Sciences and Secondary Education.
At Rowan, Morgan found her stride academically, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences. Beyond the classroom, she dedicated herself to fostering a sense of belonging as a Community Assistant for two years, contributing to the vibrant community at Rowan.
Simultaneously, Morgan seized the opportunity to make a tangible impact beyond campus walls by serving as the STEAM Program Lead for the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City. Here, she teaches coding, robotics, and life sciences to a diverse range of students, spanning ages 6 to 18. Through partnerships with tech giants like Apple and other industry leaders, their STEAM Labs enriched students' technological literacy and opened doors to boundless opportunities.
Now, as Morgan nears the completion of her Master’s Degree in Education, her passion for nurturing the love of knowledge in young adults burns brighter than ever. Morgan is eager to continue empowering the next generation and fostering environments where curiosity thrives and potential blossoms.
Grace McCunney
Leonard L. Mancuso Award for Excellence in Secondary School Student Teaching
Grace McCunney is currently a part of the MA STEM Education program at Rowan University, studying to become a math teacher. She is student teaching at Penns Grove High School in Carney’s Point, New Jersey teaching Algebra 1 and Geometry. She also graduated from Rowan University last year with her Bachelor’s in Mathematics, maintaining a 4.0 GPA all four years.
Julius Grayson
Larry Marcus Award for Excellence in Educational Leadership, Doctoral Studies
Julius J. Grayson originally hails from Hempstead, New York. While he was a student at Hempstead High School, he crossed paths with extraordinary educators who became everyday role models, igniting his passion for education. After earning his bachelor's from Rowan in 2013 and his master's from the University of Maryland College Park in 2015, he returned to Rowan, which became his second home in 2016. He currently serves as the Pre-Health Advisor for the Office of Pre-health Programs.
As an educator, he is committed to helping students reach their highest potential in and out of the classroom. He is also a member of Rowan’s Flying First First-Generation Task Force, teaches the Rowan 101 College Student Success Course, and assists with the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Black Male Collective - Revitalizing Access to Medical Professions for Underrepresented Populations. For his commitment to service and leadership, he has recently been inducted into Rowan’s Alpha Epsilon Lambda National Honor Society and will serve as tri-chair for Rowan’s Strategic Priorities Committee 1, which focuses on creating a more inclusive and equitable campus community. He aims to contribute to scholarly work focused on health and well-being for racially minoritized student affairs professionals, campus racial climates, and educational leadership.
David Suiter
Daniel P. Stanley Health and Exercise Science Alumni Award
David began his public school teaching career in September of 1987 at Salem High School in the Salem City (NJ) School District, where he taught Physical Education and Driver Education. He also coached Varsity Boys’ Basketball and Varsity Golf. In July 1999, Dave assumed the position of Director of Athletics and Students Activities and Supervisor of Health and Physical Education and held those positions until his retirement in September 2014. In 2010, David earned his Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA) designation from the National Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).
After retirement, Dave spent three years (2015 – 2018) as the part-time interim Athletic Director for Pitman (NJ) High School and joined the Rowan University College of Education faculty in the fall of 2019 as an adjunct professor in the Health and Physical Education program. He continues to serve the University in that role. He currently teaches “Teaching Concepts of Elementary Physical Education” and is a University Supervisor of Clinical Practice students.
David and his wife Carol (Joni) reside in Mannington, NJ, and are the parents of two grown children,
Aidan and Devon, and proud grandparents of Aidan “Walker” Jr.

Charles Cammarota Award for Counseling in Educational Settings
Hope Booker is a graduate student in the Master’s in Counseling in Educational Settings program, graduating in May 2024. She currently serves as the President of Chi Sigma Iota (Zeta Pi chapter), an international honor society that values academic and professional excellence in counseling. Hope is a proud Rowan alumna, class of 2020, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in History.
Keyahna Sturgis-Sanders
Excellence in Elementary Education
Keyahna Sturgis-Sanders is from Camden, New Jersey. She is a passionate and dedicated student at Rowan University, committed to academic excellence. Currently pursuing a major in Elementary Education with a focus on Literacy Studies, Keyahna strives to make the most of her college experience.
Throughout my academic journey, she has been honored to achieve Dean’s List and President’s List throughout multiple semesters. These achievements reflect her dedication to learning and her commitment to mastering her field of study.
Looking ahead, Keyahna is considering pursuing a Teacher of Reading certificate to further expand her expertise in literacy and pursue her academic and career goals. She is eager to continue her journey of growth and learning and is grateful for the support and opportunities provided to her by Rowan University.

Cecil F. Miller Special Education Award
I am graduating this spring with my BA in Inclusive Education and Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certificate. I’m a strong believer in presuming competence in my students and fostering a community of respect within the classroom. All students can learn, and I will continue to provide them with any support necessary to reach the goals they have for themselves, as well as the goals that I have for them. I’m looking forward to teaching for years to come and to continue to learn every day.

Charles Cammarota Award for Counseling in Educational Settings
"Ray Philipp is the current Treasurer and Mentorship Co-Chair of Zeta Pi, soon to be alumni of the Counseling in Educational Settings Program, and most importantly a future Professional School Counselor. Ray is a Rowan Football alumn and graduated from Rowan University with his Bachelor's degree before starting his school counseling journey.
Ray attributes his success to the amazing professors in the CES program, his site supervisors from his practicum (Lori N.) and internship (Shane M.), as well as other mentors in his life. Although he had an incredible experience at Rowan University and during his time in the CES program, Ray is excited to graduate and start his next chapter."
Jacquelyn Heiart
Robert L. Donaghay Award for Excellence in School Nursing
Jacquelyn obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1998. She has spent the majority of her nursing career working with pediatic patients. Currently, Jacquelyn is employed as a school nurse in a special needs school serving children with disabilites. She will gradaute with her Certification in School Nursing this spring and looks forward to teaching health to her students. She is honored to have been selected for the Robert L. Donaghay Award for Excellence in School Nursing.
Christie R. Deveney
Evelyn B. Slobodzian : Excellence in Reading Award
Christie is graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education and a Teacher of Reading certification. She is also a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Tau Sigma, and the Early Childhood Club. As a young teenager, Christie volunteered at her local library during the summer months and read stories, performed activities, and helped the younger children in the Ready Reader Program. She has a long love for books, reading, and writing. She has a passion for educating children and strives to help them progress in all areas of development - academic, social, language/literacy, and motor skills. She recognizes that literacy is the single-most important part of education and is most beneficial encompassing multiple disciplines. Christie is humbled and honored to have been chosen for the Evelyn B. Slobodzian Excellence in Reading Award.
Niamh Cassidy
Excellence in Elementary Education
Niamh Cassidy graduated with a dual major in Elementary Education and Literacy Studies. After transferring to Rowan University, she quickly became involved in Kappa Delta Pi. She would like to thank her professors who provided support and knowledge that she is now applying to her classroom. In addition, she is honored to be awarded the Excellence in Elementary Education Teaching Award Medallion from the College of Education.
Michaela Fallstick
Marion Rilling Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Education
Michaela will graduate this May as an Early Childhood Education major with a dual major in Literacy Studies and with the Teacher of Students with Disabilities endorsement. Michaela has had a passion for teaching from a young age and is very excited to start her career in education. She said it is an honor to be awarded this medallion and will continue to strive for excellence in her teaching career.

I am honored to have won the John A. Rocco Award for Excellence in Secondary Teaching. I strive for excellence and community within my classrooms as well as my own college career and am beyond grateful to have received this medallion. I am currently a Clinical Intern at Octavius Catto Family School in Camden, NJ where I teach 8th grade ELA. I have achieved my minor in American Studies, my BA in English and will obtain my MA in Secondary Education this May!
Allison N. Padron
Stanton B. Langworthy Award for Excellence in Foundations of Education
Allison is a dual major honors student who will be graduating Summa Cum Laude with degrees in Elementary Education and Literacy Studies, along with a French minor. During her undergraduate years at Rowan she had the privilege of serving on the executive board of Colleges Against Cancer, studying abroad in Paris, France, and participating in the Camden Teacher Pipeline program for her clinical year. She has a passion for reading, writing, science, and learning, and has loved teaching in a social justice-minded school and program. She is deeply honored to receive the Stanton B. Langworthy medallion and hopes to continue to inspire a love of knowledge in the amazing students of Camden in the coming years!
Odeta Gashi
Susan Taber Excellence in Elementary Mathematics Education Award
Odeta is a first-generation Albanian student. She is an honors student with a dual major in Literacy Studies. She is very passionate about teaching and hopes to create connections with her students as well as others in the field. She hopes to be involved in creating curriculum in schools and hopefully become a principal one day. She is constantly looking to grow as an educator and find out new ways to meet the needs of her students. She is very honored to receive this award and can’t wait to see where this next step takes her!

Leonard L. Mancuso Award for Excellence in Secondary School Student Teaching
Claudia was a part of the 4+1 CADP Program where she graduated cum laude from Rowan University in May of 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accelerated Mathematics and a Minor in Dance. She will graduate with a Master’s Degree in STEM Education and will obtain a math teaching certification in June of 2021. She is honored to have been awarded the Leonard L. Mancuso Award for Excellence in Secondary School Student Teaching Medallion and is looking forward to her future as an educator.

Lee will graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Health & Physical Education (HPE) with a minor in Psychology. During his time at Rowan he served as Vice President of the HPE club. He was also involved in Kappa Delta Pi, Rowan’s educational honor society and the Get Fit program at Rowan, which is an amazing fitness program for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and their caregivers. Lee is extremely honored to receive the Cone Award for Teaching Individuals with Disabilities and hopes use instill the same passion he has for Health & Physical Education to all his future students.
Danny Vause
Thomas J. Gallia Award for Excellence in Secondary Science Teaching
I will be graduating with a BA in Physics, a 4.0 gpa, and am finishing my MA in STEM Education. Throughout my time at Rowan, I was a physics learning assistant and a physics lab assistant. I was also a member of the physics club, a Noyce scholar, and a substitute teacher as well. Physics and education are my passions, and I look forward to building relationships with my future students and making an impact through teaching. Despite the challenges educators have faced this year, I've been able to connect with my students and am having a blast student teaching!
Irvin McFarland
Daniel P. Stanley Health and Exercise Science Alumni Award
Irvin has been in the educational field for 51 years. He spent 38 years in public education and served as a teacher, coach, and administrator from 1969 to 2007. He started at Rowan University in 2008 and serves as an adjunct professor/supervisor in the Health and Physical Education Department. Irvin supervises Clinical Practice students. He completed his undergraduate degree at Jacksonville State University (Alabama) in 1969, and his master's degree in Educational Administration at Glassboro State College in 1991. Irvin is married to Suzanne and lives in Washington Township.

Isabella C. Knapp
Cecil F. Miller Special Education Award
Isabella will graduate this May as an Elementary Education major with a dual major in Literacy Studies and with the Teacher of Students with Disabilities endorsement and a Reading endorsement. Isabella became involved with Rowan Unified Sports, a sports club on campus that pairs Special Olympics of NJ athletes with Rowan students on the same sports teams to promote inclusion. During her senior year, she led the organization as Co-President. She is so thankful to the College of Education for choosing her as the recipient of the Cecil F. Miller Special Education Medallion for excellence in Special Education.
Bartholomew J. Ricci
Thomas J. Gallia Award for Excellence in Secondary Science Teaching
Bart graduated magna cum laude from Rowan University in December of 2018 with dual Bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Mathematics. During this time, he spent time assisting both middle and high school students with their science and mathematics coursework. Upon his entry to the MA STEM program, he was directly awarded the Noyce Scholarship. He will graduate with a Master’s degree in STEM Education and will obtain a physics teaching certification. For the extraordinary impact he has had during his student teaching on teaching physics to underprivileged students, he is the recipient of the Thomas J. Gallia Award Medallion for Excellence in Secondary Science Teaching.

Angela was extremely proud to have been award the Cone Award for Teaching Individuals with Disabilities Medallion. She knew she had a passion for teaching all student but her new unknown passion was learning and growing with her students with disabilities. It was those students who showed her the type of educator she wanted to be.
Jessica Syed
Larry Marcus Award for Excellence in Educational Leadership, Doctoral Studies
Dr. Jessica Syed graduated from the Ed.D in Educational Leadership program in 2020. She is interested in access, choice, and strategic enrollment management in higher education and her dissertation was titled College choice, consumer behavior, and gender enrollment patterns: A mixed methods case study of Marathon University. Jessica also earned her B.A. in Psychology with concentrations in Leadership Studies and African American studies from Rowan University, and her M.S.Ed. in Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania. She currently works as the Senior Assistant Director of Admissions at Rowan, and lives in Glassboro with her husband and dog.

Marion Rilling Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Education
Honesty is honored to be receiving this award and has been in the field of education for 17 years as a substitute teacher. She is graduating with her certification of advance standing P-3 and reading K-12. Her passion for teaching sparked many years ago as a volunteer in her child's classroom. She is excited to begin this new chaper of her career in early childhood education.

Lisa is a proud mom of 7 children and a "nonna" to 4 grandchildren who earned her Bachelors of Art in Elementary Education and Writing Arts in December 2011. In 2017, she returned to Rowan to obtain her Master's Degree in Teacher Leadership with a Certificate of Graduate Studies in Educational Technology, graduating in December 2019. She was thrilled to complete the program and looks forward to supporting her colleagues as a teacher leader.

She is fueled by a lifelong love of books, reading, and writing. She is passionate about social justice and diversity, social-emotional learning, special populations, and all things literacy. She has a strong belief that every human being can learn and improve, even in the presence of overwhelming obstacles. Carrie looks forward to to sharing her love of literacy with her future students as she begins her teaching career. She is deeply honored to have been chosen for the Evelyn B. Slobodzian Excellence in Reading Award.

Allison Caruso is the current President of Zeta Pi and a soon to be alumnus of the Counseling in Educational Settings Program at Rowan University. Throughout her time in the CES program, she was blessed with an amazing support network in her family, fellow cohort members, mentors, and professors. She was fortunate enough to benefit from all of their knowledge, guidance, leadership, and commitment in helping her achieve her goal of becoming a Professional School Counselor. This educational process has been an incredible experience that has promoted her own professional, academic, and personal growth for which she am immensely grateful for. Allison looks forward to my future career in this educational role and to hearing about the continued success and accomplishments of the CES program and all other graduates as they start this exciting next chapter in their lives.
