Rowan University is seeking a diverse cohort of doctoral students to participate in Project IMMERSE: Inclusive, Multicultural, Multilingual, Effective, and Responsive Special Education.

Project IMMERSE is a partnership between Syracuse University School of Education, University of New Mexico, and Rowan University to support the recruitment, retention, and development of doctoral scholars with the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and critical consciousness to be effective, inclusive, and culturally and linguistically sustaining special education leaders.    

Doctoral students will join an exciting network of emerging leaders with commitment to, and expertise in, improving outcomes for diverse students with disabilities and their families.

Project IMMERSE scholars will:

  • Expand and apply knowledge of culturally-sustaining, inclusive, effective practices for diverse students with disabilities
  • Engage in high quality, rigorous research
  • Develop expertise in effective university teaching and supervision
  • Provide leadership in Special Education through mentored internships and knowledge dissemination

Project IMMERSE will provide FULL TUITION COSTS & COMPETITIVE STIPENDS. Scholars will benefit from faculty mentorship and participation in cohort activities and shared academic experiences, including focused seminars, research apprenticeships, and professional development opportunities.

Applicants should have a master’s degree in Special Education or related field and K-12 teaching or disability-related experience.

Program Components

  • Full-time enrollment in Special Education Ph.D. program at any of the three partnering universities
  • 100% tuition scholarship, plus a competitive stipend
