Reading Clinic History
In 1935, then Glassboro Normal School opened one of the first clinics in the nation for children with reading disabilities. Since that year, the Rowan University Reading Clinic has served Glassboro and surrounding communities, offering assessment and tutoring for school-aged children that struggle with reading and writing. The program is approved by the New Jersey Department of Education to provide literacy tutoring to children grades K-12. Thousands of K-12 children have benefitted from the tutoring our Rowan students provide. Rowan is the only university in NJ to host a University-based Reading Clinic that provides undergraduate pre-service teachers with experience tutoring a K-12 reader.
