M.A. in Counseling in Educational Settings

The graduate program in Counseling in Educational Settings (school counseling) in Rowan University's College of Education is accredited by The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). 

This program prepares individuals for careers as School Counselors in K-12 educational settings. 

School Counseling

For individuals who aspire to careers in K-12 schools, this program leads to a Master of Arts degree in Counseling in Educational Settings, and also, New Jersey certification in School Counseling. Graduates may work in elementary, middle, and/or secondary school settings, providing student counseling services. Such services include individual and group counseling for students regarding personal, social, and educational needs; consultation with faculty and other professional staff; assessment of individual students regarding personal-social, academic and career interests and needs; consultation with families regarding the individual.  Also educational progress and career-related plans, as well as one's personal and social development; and working cooperatively with community resources in assisting individuals and families.

Methods of Instruction

This is a 60 credit program. Due to the varied course requirements, courses will be delivered using multiple modalities that reflect pedagogically appropriate instruction by integrating technological tools that increase access and equity for all students. Methods of instruction will include lectures, discussions, demonstrations by the professor and class members, cooperative learning activities, project based learning, reflective journals, guest lecturers, Zoom presentations, and Canvas cooperative learning activities.​
