Biography
Jaime Grookett is ¾ Faculty in Secondary Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy in the Department of Content Area Teacher Education. She teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses related to English education, Humanities, and culturally sustaining education and supervises Clinical Interns in English and Social Studies content areas.
She focuses on preparing pre-service teachers to confront anti-diversity initiatives in the classroom and empowering pre-service teachers with the skills necessary to prepare secondary and middle school students for success in the classroom and beyond. She emphasizes a student-centered approach that incorporates Project Based Learning and authentic assessment. She has presented her work at multiple conferences, including the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, the Conference on College Composition and Communication, the Teaching Democracy Conference, and the Philadelphia Writing Program Administrators Conference.
Ms. Grookett received her MSEd in Teaching, Language, and Learning from the University of Pennsylvania and her MFA in Creative Writing from Drexel University. She is also a Rowan University alumnus, having earned her BAs at Rowan in English and Psychology. She taught English at Audubon High School early in her career and Education and Pedagogy courses at The University of Phoenix. Prior to coming to Rowan, she taught College Composition and Academic Writing and Reading Skills at Camden County College and Drexel University. Currently, she serves as President of the Haddonfield Board of Education in Camden County, NJ.
