Biography

Dr. Corine (Cori) Meredith Brown is a former elementary school teacher, and holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg University, a M.Ed. in Gifted Education from University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from University of Virginia. Her research interests focus on learning communities, teaching and learning in urban environments, and instructional strategies that encourage talent development in all learners. She currently serves as the Director for ASPIRE to Teach, which is the accelerated teacher preparation program for those already possessing a BA or BS degree at Rowan University. As an Associate Professor in the College of Education, she has published two books and numerous articles, and made hundreds of professional presentations on learning communities, teaching and learning in urban environments, and instructional strategies that encourage talent development in all learners. For seven years, Dr. Brown was a Professor in Residence (PIR) at Lanning Square Elementary in Camden, NJ, and also at Johnstone Elementary School in Vineland, NJ, which is the longest-running, school-based partner within Rowan’s Professional Development Schools (PDS) network, and also part of the National Association of Professional Development Schools (NAPDS). Dr. Brown is Co-Counselor of Rowan’s Eta Psi chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, nationally recognized as an ACE Award chapter by Executive Board members of the international honor society in Education. She is the founding Faculty Counselor of Alpha Delta Kappa Collegiate Club, an international education organization dedicated to educational excellence, altruism, and world understanding through fellowship. Dr. Brown teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in interdisciplinary instruction focusing on integrating content knowledge through multiple modalities. She has also designed and implemented several Honors Education courses.
