Biography

Dr. Abi-El-Mona has over 25 years of teaching experience combined across elementary, middle and high school. His teaching practices emphasize current science education reform strategies mainly inquiry based models and the use of scientific argumentation. He has taught in overseas American international schools. He is a published author of both research based science education journals and science curriculum textbooks. He has worked with the United Nations on global education development programs and has participated in the development of the science curriculum implemented by the Lebanese government. Dr. Abi-El-Mona received his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Masters in Science Education from the American University of Beirut. He received his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2007. Among his various services, Dr. Abi-El-Mona serves on the editorial review board for the Journal of Science Teacher Education and advisory board for the Journal of College Science Teaching. He has chaired the department of Teacher Education and was founding chair of the Department of STEAM Education. He currently heads the science education program at Rowan University, coordinates the MA STEM in Education program as well as works with outreach training programs with the Colleges of Science and Math and Engineering.
