Building Access on Glassboro Campus (as of 7/27/20)

Access to administrative and academic buildings on campus, except for Savitz Hall, the Chamberlain Student Center and the Wellness Center, remain restricted during this phase of our reopening. Employees who require access to buildings on the Glassboro campus must work with your division head to gain access.

New Health Screening Requirement (as of 7/27/20)

Employees and students must self-report potential COVID-19 symptoms or exposure through our online screening application every day. Website After August 3, you must complete the daily screening before logging in to an application or system protected by the University’s single sign-on service, such as Canvas, Rowan Gmail and Google Drive.

Events with Guests and Participants

All events held virtually, in-person or hybrid form or on any Rowan campus that include guests and/or participants from external institutions/organizations, must be registered through the Office of University Events to be reviewed and approved. More information

#RowanThriveReCharge Employee Well-Being Program

Rowan Thrive​invites you to participate in a free 4-week program beginning August 3. We recognize that this is an extremely challenging time with Covid-19, furloughs, reopening/starting the semester, and the Black Lives Matter movement, but if there was ever a time for self-care and supporting your well-being, this is the time to invest in yourself and your peers. The ReCharge initiative will be a trial phase of reflecting on individual/personal well-being needs, considering improving an area of your well-being to commit to for the fall semester (that would later be evaluated), and will provide building blocks to promote well-being. We encourage a positive psychology mindset and a hope for a better you, without focusing on failures or disappointments. Register

Personal Travel Policy (update 7/23/20)

We continue to strongly urge against international and domestic out of state personal travel (vacations, visiting friends/family) given the uncertainty of travel and the possibility of flight cancellations, travel restrictions, and self-isolation periods. However, personal travel is not prohibited. Please notify Rowan at mytravelplans@rowan.edu of your international and domestic personal travel plans and please observe any periods of self-isolation imposed by the State or local health department. More

Grant Submission in July and Early August

The Office of Sponsored Programs will be short-staffed in July and early August because of layoffs and furloughs in the Division of University Research, and will not have the personnel to process last minute submissions. All proposed submissions for July and early August be entered into Cayuse ASAP. Budgets should be submitted early, faculty cannot wait until the submission deadline.

Foundations of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate

The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion announces new dates for the Foundations of DEI Certificate, which consists of seven modules that do not need to be completed in order. Information. We will be offering all modules again at a later date. Register

Documenting COVID-19: Help Us Create An Archive

We invite you to archive your pandemic experiences, documenting this moment in time for future researchers and educators. You may complete the questionnaire more than once and share this with friends and family in southern New Jersey if they would like to submit their stories.

Documenting Sponsored Project Work Being Done Remotely

The Division of Research recommends use of the Telework Workplan Form to document effort on a sponsored program done remotely. All teleworking arrangements and web time entries must follow HR's policy related to COVID-19. Be sure the Pay Code HE is being used appropriately to track idle staff who are still compensated. Guidance

New Software and Changes to IRB Submission and Review Process

On September 3, the Office of Research Compliance (ORC) in the Division of Research will be transitioning the current IRB software to “Cayuse IRB.” Web-based training will begin mid-August. IRB staff will be available to assist researchers as necessary. Information

Online Teaching Basics course

The Online Teaching Basics course is a completely online course in Canvas that gives participants the experience of being an online student while exploring the pedagogy of online teaching and the teaching tools available in Canvas. Most of the course is asynchronous with group work that has synchronous components and requires an average of 5-6 hours a week. - Summer is sold out.

Transition from to Canvas

Information for non-medical classes, Canvas will replace blackboard as the learning management system begins Fall 2020. Need help?

 Create your Fall Course Shell in Canvas

Go to the portal. Select Login. Select My Courses from the top navigation menu (don’t select Access My courses). Follow the instructions. Create a course shell for each of your eligible courses. It will be made immediately, and you can begin building your course for the fall 2020 semester (students gain access five days before the semester begins). 

 Not teaching in Fall 2020?

If you are not teaching (or have yet to be assigned to) a course in the fall 2020 semester, you may still enroll in the self-paced training course. However, this will not provide you with access to develop course materials in Canvas. 

 Training and Support

Self-paced Canvas training: When you create a course shell, you are automatically enrolled (look in your Canvas dashboard). You may download existing course content from Blackboard until January 31, 2021. Check the self-paced Canvas training course often… it is being updated regularly as new features are made available within Canvas.

One-on-one training: If needed, make an appointment in Picktime Scheduler for additional help (look in your Canvas dashboard).

Important New Features and Policies for Rowan Online

Canvas Commons (share content across courses) is now available. Some LTI tools and third party integrations are possible. You may cross-list your sections into a single course in the portal under My Courses (see the self-paced training course). Request (by August 14) to use Proctortrack (except for online and hybrid courses, academic departments cover the cost). Information

Rowan Online/Canvas support requests moving to IRT Support

Information Resources & Technology and Rowan Online are streamlining the process for requesting technical support for Canvas. All faculty, students and staff working with Rowan Online managed courses, including online and hybrid courses in Rowan Global programs, will now receive general technology support through IRT’s Technology Support Center. Students and faculty may call 856-256-4400 or submit a ticket in the IRT Support Portal to get help accessing and using Canvas, just as they would for most other Rowan University applications. We have also updated support links in the Rowan Online Portal to redirect to the IRT Support Portal. Information

We are Looking for People to Train Faculty on Surface Pro Tablets

The University has ordered Surface Pro tablets for faculty who will be teaching face-to-face or HyFlex courses in the fall, which will allow those faculty to stream and record their in-person classes. We are looking for people to train faculty in the use of these tablets. Faculty who participate will receive three credits of compensation in August, and a course release during Fall 2020. Interested applicants should have basic troubleshooting skills, and a willingness to attend on-campus training and spend up to ten hours a week assisting faculty (up to half of that time may be on-campus and/or in the classroom). Applicants who are selected will be trained to assist faculty in the classroom with the technological and pedagogical uses of Canvas, classroom computers, document cameras, projectors, etc., Surface Go tablets provided by Rowan IRT, Webex and Zoom, report issues to the Classroom Support Team by phone if unable to assist in the classroom, provide remote assistance to other faculty teaching remote classes, use Jabber and monitor the designated Jabber chat room for issues/questions when scheduled, and track all issues on a Google sheet. If interested, send a brief statement outlining your qualifications to Bill Freind and Bonnie Angelone.

Clery Act Awareness - Crime and Fire Safety Information

The Jeanne Clery Act is a federal consumer protection law that requires all colleges and universities who receive federal funding to share information about crime on campus and their efforts to improve campus safety, as well as inform the public of crime in or around university facilities. This information is publicly accessible through the university's Clery Act website, where you will find  a daily crime log, a daily fire log, an annual security and fire safety report, and the campus security authority reporting and training. The mission of Rowan University Department of Public Safety is to enhance the quality of life on campus by providing a secure and safe environment through professional service to our University Community.
