PrograDescription

The Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) offers a variety of opportunities for caring and dedicated undergraduate, post-baccalaureate and graduate students to pursue initial certification in the subject matter areas of Art, Math, Music, Science, and Health and Physical Education.

Music and Health and Physical Education culminating in a Bachelor degree in the content major, a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree and teaching certification with a specialization in each of these fields. In addition, it offers a graduate program in Science (includes Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Physical Science) and Math education culminating in a Master of Arts degree in STEM with a teaching certification. Further more the department is committed to fostering the growth of innovative instructional leaders who have a social constructivist and developmental perspective, and are committed to the principles of access, success, and equity for all students through collaborative 21st- century educational practices in the arts and sciences. All programs in the department have been approved by the New Jersey Department of Education.

Mission
The mission of the department is to work collaboratively across the STEAM disciplines and with local stakeholders, the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Education prepares K-12 teachers and future school leaders who provide safe, democratic learning environments in which all students have access to experiences that strengthen their academic, personal, social, and physical wellbeing. Through this work, the department engages in research and practices that result in innovations and continuous improvement in the ways in which local schools teach art, engineering, health and physical education, mathematics, music, science, and technology with the ultimate goal of ensuring STEAM education for all learners.

Vision
The department of STEAM education seeks to create a model for learning how to improve in the context of complex educational systems, with the ultimate goal of continuing to provide greater access to quality education for ALL in the region and beyond.
