Scholarship and Awards Criteria
Cecil F. Miller Special Education Award Special Education Perpetual Medallion Award
Dr. Cecil F. Miller served as a member of the Department of Special Education from 1972 - 1979. This Medallion is donated in his memory by the Department of Interdisciplinary and Inclusive Education to a student who exemplifies leadership in the area of special education.
- Candidate must be in the Department of Interdisciplinary and Inclusive Education and Graduating.
- Canidates must have a cumulative GPA 3.0
- Candidate must have personal community service
- Candidate must participate in professional development
- Membership and participation in related organizations (e.g., Student CEC, NJEA, other related organizations)
Frances James Scholarship, $1,000 (Established by Dr. and Ms. Henry James)
Purpose of Scholarship: To award a scholarship to an academically deserving student who has provided significant service to students who are physically challenged or with learning disabilities.
- Teacher candidate in the Teacher of Students with Disabilities Program
- Cumulative grade point average of 3.0
- Completion of 9 credit hours (criteria may be modified to indicate 8 credit hours) of courses in the Department of Special Education (e.g., Differentiated Instruction, Positive Behavior Support, and Human Exceptionalities)
- Has preferably two semesters, but at least one semester remaining before graduation
- Community service
- Participation in professional development activities
- Membership and participation in related organizations (e.g., Student CEC)
- Demonstration of financial need.
Willie Kate Baldwin Scholarship, $500
- Teacher candidate in the Teacher of Students with Disabilities Program
- Cumulative grade point average of 3.0
- Completion of 9 credit hours (criteria may be modified to indicate 8 credit hours) of courses in the Department of Special Education (e.g., Differentiated Instruction, Positive Behavior Support, and Human Exceptionalities)
- Has preferably two semesters, but at least one semester remaining before graduation
- Community service
- Participation in professional development activities
- Membership and participation in related organizations (e.g., Student CEC)
- Demonstration of financial need
- Maximum credits of 180 credits
Irving Shipkin and Joseph Scardilli Scholarship, $750
- Teacher candidate in the Teacher of Students with Disabilities Program
- Cumulative grade point average of 3.0
- Completion of 9 credit hours (criteria may be modified to indicate 8 credit hours) of courses in the Department of Special Education (e.g., Differentiated Instruction, Positive Behavior Support, and Human Exceptionalities)

Edna H. Garrison Scholarship, $400
- Candidate in the M.A. in Learning Disabilities Program or LDT-C Certification Program
- Cumulative grade point average of 3.2
- Completion of 6 credit hours of courses in the Department of Language, Literacy and Special Education (e.g., Ap0plied Tests and Measurements, Applied Theories of Learning)
- Has preferably two semesters, but at least one semester remaining before graduation
- Community service
- Participation in professional development activities
- Membership and participation in related organizations (e.g., Student CEC, NJEA, other related organizations)
- Demonstration of financial need
