Mission & Vision

The Learning Resource Center Network, a program of the New Jersey Department of Education, is funded through IDEA Part B funds and promotes usable innovations and evidence-base practices of inclusive education through the availability of resources, services, and professional learning opportunities. 

The Learning Resource Centers foster the achievement of all students with disabilities, their families, and the educational professionals who work with them as they pursue the goal of increasing opportunities and improving educational outcomes in special education. 

The LRC-South at Rowan University is a partnership with the New Jersey Department of Education Office of Special Education and 100% funded by federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B funds (CFDA #84.027A).

By identifying and removing barriers and fostering individual potential, Rowan’s overarching mission is to cultivate a community where all members can learn and grow. The Rowan community is committed to a safe environment that encourages intellectual, academic and social interaction and engagement across multiple intersections of identities. At Rowan University, creating and maintaining a caring community that embraces diversity in its broadest sense is among the highest priorities.

The University’s mission is embedded in the College of Education’s mission: “To positively impact and develop local, regional, national and global educational communities by: collaborating with partners in the field to promote learning and the mental and physical health of diverse learners in all settings; integrating teaching, research, and service to advance knowledge in the field; preparing and supporting professional through the development of knowledge, skills and dispositions, with the ultimate goal of ensuring equitable educational opportunities for all learners.”

Building on that mission, the LRC-South at Rowan is committed to serving historically marginalized populations receiving special education services, their families and the professionals working with them by making resources and information fully accessible through addressing barriers such as transportation, communication & language, childcare, food insecurity, and dietary constraints.

The LRC-South is housed within the College of Education, but also under the oversight and full support of the Center For Access, Success and Equity (CASE). CASE was created to support faculty, students, and community members to develop initiatives addressing local and regional issues of access, success, and equity for students in p-20 institutions. The Center focuses on “turning research into practice” and having a direct impact on the educational outcomes of the wider P-20 student population. CASE addresses issues by completing extensive research, offering professional services and engaging in policy creation and reform that impact the most persistent educational challenges, those that obstruct access, success, and equity in traditionally underserved communities.
