The Rowan University Reading Clinic has served Glassboro and surrounding communities for many years, offering assessment and tutoring for children that struggle with reading and writing. Rowan students specializing in reading instruction and supervised by the Reading faculty serve as tutors. Each clinic participant undergoes an initial reading evaluation to determine his or her individual strengths and weaknesses. A retest is administered at the end of the clinic to measure the student's progress.

The dual purpose of the clinic is to provide literary assessment and instruction to students grades K-12, while providing opportunities for Rowan University students to develop skills as teachers of reading and writing.

More About the Clinic

All children are provided individualized tutoring in reading by tutors who have advanced training in the correction of reading difficulties. All tutors are supervised by Rowan University faculty. The content of instruction and methods are selected from research based effective practices.

Upon entry each child is given diagnostic tests to determine current reading levels and strengths and weaknesses in reading. Instruction is focused on correcting problems in word recognition, comprehension, and writing. Children are tutored in the Rowan University's Reading Clinic in Glassboro, NJ twice a week during the university's fall and spring semesters and four times a week in the summer session.
